Like many people said, it does blast some of the whites kind of bright, and even the instruction sheet mentions you may need to turn down your brightness on the TV. Games are now coming through at 1080p instead of 1080i, and the toslink connector on the converter is working just fine, it passed through to my switch box and then to my surround sound with no sound issues in 5.1 digital. I was nervous about spending $75 for this instead of forking up the $200 for an Xbox 360 Arcade unit to replace my older one with for the HDMI port. I kicked my brightness down by 4 clicks, and it is fantastic. I don't have the HD-DVD add-on, but for games, works like a champ. My TV only supported 1080i through component, and with the new Octava HDMI/Toslink switch box i had bought, HDMI was a must for my Xbox. I hooked everything up last night, and the converter works just fine.
All in all, just get an xbox with a real hdmi port. No problems with the seller or anything like that, mad catz just sucks. The image quality after using this part is a little bit better.
If not, you just might want to get the Elite. When I have it in 1080i it looks awesome. So I would reccommend the product if your XBox works well. I think the only thing I would recommend would be to get a better quality HDMI Cable. Then you'll have the extra hard drive space. I have a 40" Plasma I'm running it to (Probably better to use an LCD) and when I put the resolution to 1080p it gets a little snowy sometimes. The one that comes with it is very short. It might be because of the plasma and simply because I am "upgrading" the resolution on the XBox.
It is likely because the Mad Catz device is performing a task that this version of the 360 just was meant to do. (If you're reading this, you probably already know that). Yet, it surely isn't the 1080p sharpness that my wallet and I would prefer. Haha. Now the converter doesn't quite work as expected, but it does indeed work.
My setup consists of a computer monitor with a single HDMI input and capable of 1080p resolution. Pity. As for the cause of why this coverter won't produce high quality HD, perhaps the culprit is the Oricore HDMI switch box I have it hooked up to - But then why do my other devices (the computer and PS3) run perfectly fine 1080p resolution. This monitor connected to a HDMI switch box which enables me to switch inputs between my PS3 and computer.
Unfortunately for me, both the 1080i and 1080p resolutions projected from my old 360 draw an intermittent if not mostly blank (black) screen, while 480p and 720p work at full speed. On the plus side, in these resolutions the converter produces as good, if not slightly better picture than the 360 VGA cables I had been using. I was excited about getting this Mad Catz hdmi converter for my 360 because it is a first generation 360 and no hdmi connection existed. Of course I was also eager to plug more HDMI devices to this 5-port switch.
blink on and off and then static for the longest time. This thing will not work with my t.v. Don't waste your time on this product If i could i would give this peace of junk no stars. I bought this at frys good thing i did so i can return it real fast. I have a ln52A860 and it will make my t.v.
